Christmas Cover Competition

1. Organiser
The Church of Ireland Gazette (‘the Organiser’) is running the Christmas Cover Competition 2025 (‘the Competition’) to select artwork and photography for the December 2025 issue of the Gazette. By entering the Competition, participants agree to these Terms and Conditions.
2. Eligibility

The Competition is open to all individuals and groups of all ages, including students, families, parishioners, and readers of the Gazette.

Entries from Church of Ireland schools are especially welcomed, but schools of all faiths and none are eligible.

Employees of the Church of Ireland Gazette, their immediate families, and anyone professionally connected to the judging panel are not eligible to win prizes.
3. Entry Requirements

Entries may be original artwork or photography inspired by the theme: ‘Light Shines in the Darkness’.

Entries produced by artificial intelligence or assisted by artificial intelligence will not be considered.

Format: Portrait orientation is preferred; landscape and square formats may be considered.

File specifications: Minimum 2MB for photos; scanned or photographed artworks at 300dpi or higher. Low-quality files may be disqualified.

Limit: One entry per individual. Schools may submit up to ten entries.

Submission: Entries must be emailed to christmas@coigazette.ie with the participant’s name, age (if under 18), parish or school name, and parent/guardian contact details if applicable.

Deadline: 5pm, Monday 17th November 2025. Late entries will not be accepted.
4. Judging
-
A panel comprising the Editor, professional artists, and Church of Ireland leaders will judge entries.

Judging criteria: Creativity, technical quality, and the effectiveness of capturing the competition theme.

Decisions of the judging panel are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
5. Prizes
-
Winner: Artwork featured on the December 2025 cover; €100/£90 cash prize; parish or school also receives €100/£90.

Runner-up: €50/£45.

A selection of additional entries may be featured inside the December issue, on social media, and on the Gazette website.
6. Rights and Usage
-
By entering, participants grant the Church of Ireland Gazette a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to reproduce, publish, and display submitted entries in print, online, and promotional materials, including social media.

Participants retain copyright of their work but acknowledge the Organiser’s right to use, edit, and feature submissions for publicity and marketing purposes.

Participants confirm that entries are original and do not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights.
7. Data Protection & Privacy
-
Personal data provided will be used solely for administration of the Competition, prize distribution, and promotion of winners.

Participants under 18 must have parental/guardian consent to submit.

Contact details will not be shared with third parties outside of Competition administration.
8. Liability
-
The Organiser is not responsible for lost, late, or corrupted entries.

Participation is at the entrant’s own risk.

The Organiser reserves the right to disqualify entries that breach these Terms and Conditions or are deemed inappropriate.
9. General
-
The Organiser reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions or cancel the Competition at any time without prior notice.

Any disputes will be governed by the laws of the United Kingdom as applied in Northern Ireland.
