Sir, — I was delighted to read the latest issue of the Gazette and to see how well you have refreshed the format and style. On a particular point, it was a relief to see that clergy are again being referred to correctly with the definite article of the honorific title.
My father, The Revd Robert Whiteside, was Secretary of the Church of Ireland Press for a number of years and wrote a regular column for the Gazette. He was especially keen to bring a southern perspective to what is often perceived to be a largely northern publication. (The regular diocesan features have helped to bring about a better balance.) Later, it was a privilege for him to be able to write openly about his terminal illness in the column and, through it, both to encourage others and to receive prayerful encouragement from them.
