The recent meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council in Belfast was a triumph in every respect except one. The opening and closing services took place in the Cathedral Church of St Anne, Belfast, which is a Cathedral Church in both the Diocese of Connor and the Diocese of Down and Dromore. One would expect, therefore, that both the Bishop of Connor and the Bishop of Down and Dromore would be in attendance. However, only the Bishop of Connor, The Right Reverend George Davison, attended both services, whilst the Bishop of Down and Dromore, The Right Reverend David McClay, was nowhere to be seen.
Apparently this was due to scheduling issue whereby +David was absent for entirely unavoidable reasons during the same week when delegates from across the Anglican Communion (including the Archbishop of Canterbury) were to be present in his diocese. I am quite sure +David is simply mortified that such a slip-up has occurred.
And I am also sure the Down and Dromore social media team will, eventually, get round to covering the visit of such esteemed guests to their diocese.
