I would be grateful for the opportunity to inform your readers about a project that is taking me across Ireland in search of pipe organs hidden within our Church of Ireland churches.
The aim is to identify, photograph and document these instruments, many of which are little known outside their local communities. The project is being shared through the YouTube channel Irish Church Pipe Organs: Thy Are What Thy Are and recorded on IPOR.ie, which seeks to create a comprehensive register of pipe organs in Ireland.
I would welcome information from readers who can confirm the presence of an organ in their church, or who have historical, anecdotal, or personal knowledge of an instrument or its organists. Contributions may be acknowledged or treated anonymously. Information can be sent to whelanmark34@gmail.com.
The project will eventually form the basis of a book documenting Ireland’s rich pipe-organ heritage.
